Gene Witt Elementary School students lapped the playground to raise money during their first walk-a-thon.
Two fifth-graders, Sydney Rice and Ryann Hilyer, came up with the idea to hold a walk-a-thon to raise money for animal welfare during the Witty Kids after-school program with teacher Kim Hoy. Hoy was explaining to the students about how important it is to help others and the environment.
"So we decided to help with stopping animal abuse," Hilyer said.
The students raised $505.50 for the humane society and also collected a tableful of dog food, treats and supplies to donate.
