Campers adopt a cat for a week and learning about caring for animals.
Purrs and meows are all expected in this camp. But don’t anticipate any to come from campers of the Cat Depot Critter Camp.
The goal of the Critter Camp is to teach children how to care for animals ranging from cats to horses to sea creatures. In the span of a week campers will enjoy presentations from local animal –related agencies like Sixteen Hands Horse Sanctuary and Mote Marine Laboratory.
Part of the daily classroom time is spent with the adoptable cats and kittens at Cat Depot. The students learn how to safely care for the cats.
Campers are assigned a cat for a week to learn about and play with while attending the camp. During the week they put together a collage of their new feline friend that includes photos that will be used to help get promote the cat’s adoptable status.
Volunteer Coordinator Lena Hernandez said that on occasion the project has helped land homes for cats with their assigned campers.
