The Junior League of Sarasota celebrated Oktoberfest Sarasota 2010 Oct. 9 at Gold Coast Eagle Distributors in Lakewood Ranch. The event included a silent auction, food and an assortment of beers to enjoy. The money raised by the event went to the Community Outreach Program in Sarasota.

Doctor Idol, a battle of the bands featuring local musician-physicians that drew more than 600 people and raised more than $10,000 last year to benefit the Ear Research Foundation, returned again to Michael's On East. Proceeds will benefit Florida's Vision Quest.

The fifth annual West Coast Bike Rally took place Friday, on Lakewood Ranch Main Street. From 5 to 11 p.m. the street was blocked off so that attendees could enjoy bands, food and more.

Lakewood Ranch opened its Class 4A-District 11 season with a 42-21 victory over Port Charlotte during the Mustangs' Homecoming game Oct. 8.

Lakewood Ranch High students had plenty to celebrate Oct. 8 as the Mustangs defeated Port Charlotte 42-21 in the school's Homecoming Game.

Students at McNeal Elementary School and their families gathered in the school's cafeteria Oct. 8 for a costume ball. Guests enjoyed pizza, dancing and a costume contest, among other festivities.

Girls at Imagine School at Lakewood Ranch dressed like royalty for the school's Princess Ball Oct. 8. Attendees enjoyed dinner, dancing and photos.

The Republican Club of Longboat Key met Friday, Oct. 8 at The Sarasota Yacht Club.

It was a party in the street in the Rosemary District as locals gathered to listen to live music, shop and socialize at Rosemary Rising on Thursday, Oct. 7.

The Longboat Key Center for the Arts held the opening for its "Common Grounds" and "Ageless Creativity" exhibits.
