Suspicious incident: A man called police when the scenery at his second floor hotel room was interrupted by the buzz of an identified flying object — a drone. The complainant told police in a phone call a small drone was seen flying about 10 feet from his balcony. He called the front desk before the police and was told the drone was being operated by a landscaping company laying sod. The man demanded the video footage gathered by the drone be released to him, a request that was denied. The police officer documented the incident and closed the case.
11:19 a.m., 5460 Gulf of Mexico Drive
Lost/found property: A good Samaritan walked into the police station after discovering an American Express credit card on the sidewalk during a morning walk. The walker turned the credit card into police with the hopes of reuniting the AMEX with its rightful owner. Police found an address and phone number for the account holder and reached him via phone. He told the officer his wife was vacationing on the island and would let her know it was found. The account holder’s wife arrived “within moments,” signed a release form. She was glad to have the card back, but apparently hadn't even noticed it was missing in the first place. The account remains open, but the case was closed.
3:44 a.m., 6900 block of Bayside Drive
Disabled vessel: A police officer on routine patrol noticed a sailboat loose from its mooring and resting against a dock. The officer recognized the boat as one that had broken free from its anchor to roam in the past. The officer attempted to contact the registered owner using two separate phone numbers, to no avail. The officer determined the boat was not adrift or in danger of causing additional damage to the dock, though there were scrapes on the rear of the boat. The on-patrol officer penned an email to the next on-duty marine patrol officer to check on the vessel, and closed the case.
