Transportation chapter update workshop set for Sept. 1

A community workshop on draft updates to the Sarasota City Plan Transportation Chapter is 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Bayfront Community Center, 803 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, behind Memorial Auditorium. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to learn about proposed changes, ask questions and provide feedback to city staff.

The transportation chapter update focuses on improving travel efficiency and expanding transportation options to support access to destinations including business districts, neighborhoods and schools, according to a statement by the city. Florida law requires local comprehensive plans to be periodically evaluated and amendments to undergo state review.

At a public hearing on Aug. 3, the City Commission heard public comment and a staff presentation about the proposed updates before approving the transmittal of the draft to the Florida Department of Commerce for a 30-day expedited review. 

The workshop will allow staff to gather community feedback before the draft chapter returns to the City Commission for adoption in late fall 2026.
