Sarasota’s young professional population now has a day proclaimed just for them. The city of Sarasota, Sarasota County and State Rep. Ray Pilon have declared June 17 “Young Professionals Day.”

Since 2003, members of the Sarasota Young Professionals Group have made a difference throughout the Sarasota community by taking active leadership roles. Each month, members volunteer for local non-profit organizations, and they host events to network, develop personal and professional skills, bring about social and political change and utilize cutting-edge technology.

Sarasota’s YPG will host its annual conference from noon to 5 p.m. on Young Professionals Day — Friday, June 17, at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota, 1000 Blvd. of the Arts.

“Frank (Maggio) and I believe the best ideas are developed when the mind is challenged in creative ways,” said YPG Board Chairwoman Elise Lipoff. “We really wanted to give young professionals an alternative to the stuffy conference and provide innovative ways to bring about social consciousness, improvement of self and our community. By conceptualizing new solutions to relevant social issues, we hope to create a new wave of advocates from the young-professional demographic to get more involved in these issues on a larger level. With the assistance from The HuB, this year's conference combines the 'outside-of-the-box' thinking and problem-solving techniques for the overworked young professional, with skill building seminars that will help break down the walls put up around us by the corporate world, so young professionals can get ahead in the workplace."

There are 10 days left to register. The conference is $40 for YPG members and $55 for non-members. For tickets, contact Frank Maggio at [email protected] or Amy Mosshart at [email protected]. Following the event, YPG will hold a wrap party at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota Boathouse.
