She and teammates on McNeal’s Lego League team secured a third-place finish Jan. 13 in the “robot performance” category of a First Lego League tournament held at Cypress Lake Middle School in Fort Myers.

“We learned from our mistakes,” Suha said. 

The victory earned students their “Golden Ticket” to regionals, to be held Feb. 17 at Hillsborough Community College in Plant City.

Top shelf prizes

Ava Masuga, 5, was one of seven winners of the "Elf on the Shelf" event sponsored by Main Street Merchants in December.

Participants were to locate elves located in various stores on Lakewood Main Street and complete a list with all their names. Each participant was given a a free round of golf donated by The Fish Hole. Other prizes include gift cards from Paris Bistrot, Station 400, Arts A Blaze and Barbary Shoppe.

Other winners were Gage Baker, Beth Finn, Riley Finn, Olivia Bliss, Logan Smith and Sandra O'Brien.
