Taste of the Keys and Fashion Show

What: Enjoy food from local restaurants and drinks from local “celebrities.” The fashion show will feature clothing from J.McLaughlin. Longboat Key Center for the Arts Habatat Galleries Opening ­— Takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, 6860 Longboat Drive S. The exhibition will feature contemporary glass art from 21 artists. Call 383-2345.

St. Armands Winter Art Festival — More than 175 artists in the areas of pottery, oil, watercolor, ceramics, jewelry and sculpture will display and sell their original artwork. Call 388-1554.

 

Tuesday, Feb. 2

“Masters of Blown Glass” — Takes place from 3 to 4:30 p.m at the Longboat Key Education Center, 5370 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Suite 212. Award-winning glass artists Kathleen Mulcahy and Ron Desmett will discuss their work and the Pittsburgh Glass Center. Cost is $15 for members; $20 for nonmembers. Call 383-8811.

 

Friday, Feb. 5

Tea for the Sea — Takes place from 2 to 5 p.m. at Harbourside Dining Room, 3110 Harbourside Drive. The annual high tea event will celebrate women’s leadership in the fields of science and philanthropy. Tea and hors d’oeuvres will be served, and there will be speakers and a live auction. Monday, Feb. 8

Christ Church Fashion Show — Takes place at 11 a.m. at Christ Church of Longboat Key, Presbyterian, 6400 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Fashions will be by Patchington and hair by Design 2000. Refreshments will be served. Cost is $15, and proceeds will benefit the Learn to Fish Recovery Center and the church. Call 387-7485 for tickets.

 

Tuesday, Feb. 9

Longboat Key Democratic Club — Takes place at 11:30 a.m. at Portofino Restaurant, 2600 Harbourside Drive. Frank Alcock, political commentator for ABC 7 and expert in environmental studies and climate change, will speak. Cost is $25. Call 383-9893.

“Entering the Shift Change” — Takes place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Longboat Key Education Center, 5370 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Suite 212. “Songs from the Heart — The Many Facets of Love” — Takes place from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Longboat Key Education Center, 5370 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Suite 212. Metropolitan Opera baritone Jason Stearns and Lee Dougherty Ross, artistic director and co-founder of Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota, will perform a special Valentine’s Day program.
