  • Culture Collective at the Sarasota Opera — Social hour takes place from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m at the Sarasota Opera House. Performance at 8 p.m. Friday, March 14 A troubador's quest for love, a soldier's lust, and a mother's undying thirst for vengeance is the story of this dramatic opera by Verdi. Premiered in 1853, Il trovatore features such operatic favorites as the great "Di quella pira" for tenor and the famous "Anvil Chorus."
  • Sarasota Firefighters Rib Cook-Off — takes place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Phillippi Creek Park. This 11th annual event, benefiting the Sarasota Firefighters Benevolent Fund, will feature live music, a fire engine pull and, of course, ribs. Free.
  • St. Paddy's Day Celebration — Takes place at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Cock & Bull Pub. This celebration features live music, corned beef and cabbage and plenty of Guiness. Free.
  • Dawn of the Head — takes place at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Mr. Beery's. What could go better together than beer, art and zombie movies? I We don't know, either. Come enjoy the zombie-inspired artwork.
  • The Supervillains, Abandon the Midwest and Summer Survivors — takes place at 9 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the Cabana Inn. Check out the sounds of these regional touring acts. $7 at the door.
  • Sixth Annual St. Patrick's Day Block Party — takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday, March 17, at the Shamrock Pub. Regarded as the largest St. Patrick's Day celebration in Sarasota County, this annual event will feature live music, art, food and drink, all benefiting the YMCA Youth Shelter.
