Weekend forecasts shows rain

Overcast skies today signal a weekend of rain, as predicted by the National Weather Service.

The chance of precipitation is estimated at 60% Saturday in the Lakewood Ranch area, with scattered rain showers in the morning and possible thunderstorms in the afternoon. Up to a half-inch of rain is expected.

Rain likely will continue Sunday, mostly after 11 a.m., with scattered thunderstorms.

The forecast is similar in Sarasota, with thunderstorms predicted for Saturday afternoon; however, Sunday is only predicted to have 20% to 30% chance of scattered rain and thunderstorms.
