Courthouse Concert Series: Koko and Karma Dou

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Manatee County Courthouse Square, 1115 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton

Enjoy the free outdoor concert series at the Manatee Court House with the R&B and rock ’n’ roll musical stylings of the Koko and Karma Dou. DaVinci’s food truck will also be on hand to serve up fresh coffee, food and gelato.


AfroDixie Remixes Listening Party

8 p.m. at The Blue Rooster, 1525 4th St.

Local artist John Sims releases a musical project 13 years in the making: A collection of 14 remixes of the controversial song, "Dixie," in various black musical stylings, performed mostly by Sarasota musicians. Admission includes a copy of the CD.



Les McCurdy’s 60th Birthday Roast

6:30 p.m. at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre,1923 Ringling Blvd.

It’s a party full of laughs as comedians Bobby Collins, Ken Sons, Tim Wilkins, Tim Moffett and Valarie Storm pay tribute to comedian and club owner Les McCurdy on his 60th birthday. Proceeds from the night, which includes an open bar, dinner and roast, will benefit the Sertoma Club of Greater Sarasota, which helps children in need improve their speech and hearing capabilities.



"Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"

The Players Theatre brings the beloved 1968 family film to life onstage in this charming musical. With music from the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins), director Berry Ayers and his cast will hop aboard the iconic flying car and bring audiences up into the sky.

We need an adult ... John Rusnak is back with his annual haunted house, Frightmares, this time in a new location at the Ringling Shopping Center. This two-in-one feature is all the nightmare fuel you'll need this Halloween season. The location features Times vary nightly. Runs through Sunday, Nov. 1.



“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 12 Tour

8 p.m. at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail

Television's popular dance competition returns to the Van Wezel with the top-10 finalists from season 12. The dancers will perform popular routines from last season, as well as original pieces choreographed specially for this tour.



Under the Covers II, An Acoustic Evening

Planned Parenthood's annual Halloween bash returns to Sarasota with a "Paranormal Prom” theme. Enjoy a costume dance party that includes an open bar, DJ, live entertainment and the party’s trademark “shag bags” filled with candy, goodies and a shocking surprise.

The Sarasota Opera opens up its fall opera season and the final year of its historic Verdi Cycle with Puccini’s “La bohème.” Performed locally in 2006 and 2011, the world’s most popular ballet returns to Sarasota with an all-new ensemble, including Jessica Rose Cambio as Mimì, Angela Mortellaro as Musetta, Martín Nusspaumer as Rodolfo and Craig Irvin as Marcello. Directed by Stephanie Sundine, this opera tells the passionate tale of the bohemian lifestyle in 1840s Paris.

Selby Gardens hosts its first Halloween family celebration with costumed activities, such as trick-or-treating, pumpkin decorating, a photo booth, face painting and an inflatable obstacle course. Costumes encouraged. Music by the Lounge Cats.

Costume Contest

JDub's Brewing Co. hosts its second-annual costume contest in its tap room, featuring prizes for first, second and third-place costumes, as well as a prize for best group costume. Special beer tapping at 8 p.m. and food by Hot Box'd Steamed Cheeseburgers until 11 p.m.

Celebrate Halloween and the Five O'Clock Club's 60th Anniversary with the club's first-ever hip-hop show. Ryanito, Shorty-140, Ocean Symphony, Trey Libra and DJ Galati will perform, and DJ Cellus will host. Party features costume contest and drink specials and will benefit the Humane Society of Sarasota.

Renowned pianist Soyeon Kate Lee helps kick of the Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota’s fall season with a rich lineup of pieces, including Brahms, Ravel and Scarlatti. The intimate Historic Asolo Theater will give patrons an up-close experience with Lee and her classical music.
