Webster plans commission comeback

Former mayor and District 4 Commissioner Joan Webster is planning on making a return to the Town Commission.

According to Town Clerk Trish Granger, Webster asked for a commission candidate qualification packet Monday, July 26.

Reached at her Michigan summer home this week, Webster confirmed for The Longboat Observer she will run for either her former District 4 seat against incumbent Jim Brown or the at-large seat currently held by Phillip Younger.

“I have requested the papers, and I am considering my options,” Webster said.

Granger said Webster must return two forms to Town Hall that confirm her treasurer and the bank account she will be using to collect donations.

Once those forms are returned, Webster will be able to obtain her petition and collect 10 signatures from Key residents before becoming a certified candidate by the Manatee County Supervisor of Elections Office.

Webster has served three years as a code enforcement board member, one year as a planning board member and six years as a town commissioner that included one year as the town’s mayor.

Any citizen can request a commission candidate qualification packet by calling Granger at 316-1999.

To date, Webster is the only candidate to request a packet.
