Pulitzer Prize-winning political commentator Charles Krauthammer blasted Pres. Barack Obama on his reaction to the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attacks and criticized the administration’s recent move to warm diplomatic relations with Cuba during a visit to Sarasota Tuesday.

“The War on Terror is not over,” Krauthammer said during a roundtable discussion before kicking off the 2015 Ringling College Library Association Town Hall Lecture Series. “And perhaps someone ought to remind the president of that.”

The frequent Fox News guest said Obama’s failure to appear at the peace rally in France this weekend was “not out of character,” citing a 2013 speech in which the president appeared to downplay the War on Terror. He also criticized the recent move to release prisoners from Guantamo Bay.

“You release prisoners of war when the war is over, that’s how it’s been done since the cavemen,” Krauthammer said. “You don’t do it in the middle of a war.”

Krauthammer also criticized the administration for pushing to normalize diplomatic relations Cuba, without forcing Cuban government to allow more political freedom for its people.

“We don’t need Cuba — our trade with the rest of the world is near infinite,” Krauthammer said. “Cuba needs us.”
