UPDATE: Sarasota Police lock down Plaza Five Points

During what became a busy day for the Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD) hazmat team and brought the Federal Bureau of Investigation out to investigate two incidents, local authorities ruled a suspcious envelope delivered to Plaza Five Points was not hazardous or explosive.

Sarasota Police continue investigate that incident, and a previous hazmat scare that occured around noon Tuesday, Oct. 15, according to a Sarasota Police news release. But, there isn't evidence to conclude that the two incidents are related.

Sarasota Police and SCFD personnel locked down Westfield Southgate Mall after a man threw a white powdery substance into a Lens Crafters store. Authorites determined the substance was not hazardous, but the suspicious incident forced a two-hour shutdown of the shopping center.

Earlier: The Federal Bureau of Investigation became involved in another incident in the city of Sarasota, after Plaza Five Points staff recieved a suspcious package before 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Sarasota Police locked down the building after receiving reports of an envelope marked with the words "TNT" and "Kaboom" arriving at the address.
