UPDATE: Homeowner shoots and kills intruder

Sarasota County deputies have arrested the man who shot and killed a home intruder earlier this week for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Christopher Bane, 36, shot 22-year-old Calvin Yoder, who allegedly fired his weapon after trying to enter Bane's son's room early Tuesday. Bane had a felony conviction related to a drug offense in 2001.

Earlier: The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is investigating a home intrusion and fatal shooting that took place early Tuesday morning.

The shooting occurred at 5:40 a.m. at 2130 Shank Court when homeowner Christopher Bane and his 11-year-old child were in the home. Bane claims he heard an intruder and confronted him in the hallway of the home.

The suspect fired at Bane, who shot back and killed the suspect. The Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as 22-year-old Calvin Yoder of Sarasota. Yoder was arrested in Sarasota in May for domestic battery.
