When Lindsay Damery ran a red light and hit 83-year-old Donald Mader April 4, the 22-year-old may have just received a citation.

However, when the East County resident passed away from his injuries April 5, the case turned into a traffic homicide investigation.

For the next few months, the Florida Highway patrol will further investigate the traffic violation that took Mader's life last week.

Mader and his wife, Joyce, who frequently rode their bicycles around town, according to a friend of the couple, rode their bicycles near Springfield Parkway and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard when Damery drove through a red light and struck Mader.

After he was hit, Mader hit his wife, who suffered minor injuries.

No updates have been provided on the investigation, yet.
