A force main break that spilled about 200 gallons of raw sewage into Hudson Bayou took about nine hours to repair Monday.

A city contractor, Westra Inc., working on a lift-station project on Osprey Avenue accidentally broke the 14-inch pipe at about 1:30 p.m north of the bridge at Mound Street.

The leak was repaired at 10:30 p.m. that evening.

City officials said it appears no fecal matter made it into the bayou.

The accident did not affect traffic, because it occurred in an area, where the road was already closed for construction.
