Planning, Zoning and Building Director Monica Simpson alerted Planning and Zoning Board members regarding a second meeting will be held in January with Florida Department of Transportation officials to discuss excess signage.

Planning board members Walter Hackett and Laurin Goldner are members of a committee that wants the FDOT to reduce state signs along Gulf of Mexico Drive. Hackett, who presented a signage study to the commission, has counted 405 signs along a 9.7-mile stretch.

At its Sept. 23 regular workshop, FDOT Traffic Operations DEngineer Keith Slater said the department would remove a few signs as well as the town’s 122 bike lane signs if the town desired.

The meeting will be held all day on Jan. 4, Jan. 10 or Jan. 19, 2011.
