Town outlines bay accesses available to Key residents

Public Works Director Juan Florensa presented a list of all of the town’s bay accesses in June. This is a review of eight of the town’s 15 bay accesses that are accessible for both Key residents and visitors.

1. Durante Park, 5550 Gulf of Mexico Drive
Various locations within Joan M. Durante Park provide good accesses points. There is ample vehicle parking at Durante Park.

2. Bayfront Park Recreation Center, 4052 Gulf of Mexico Drive
This access, pictured above, is located at Bayfront Park and provides excellent access with approximately 20 parking spots.

3. 3490 Gulf of Mexico Drive
This is a 50-foot-wide-by-160-foot-long strip of land providing excellent access with approximately eight parking spots. This parcel also serves as overflow parking for the beach access across Gulf of Mexico Drive.

4. 800 Russell St.
This is a 50-foot-wide-by-50-foot-long strip of land providing excellent access with no parking.

5. 899 Broadway St.
This is a strip of land providing extremely narrow access with approximately five parking spots.

6. 755 Linley St.
This is a 15-foot-wide-by-10-foot-long strip of land providing excellent pedestrian, kayak and boat access with approximately five parking spaces shared with the boat ramp. The dock provides a great fishing spot with a sink and filleting area. The town has just completed a renovation of the boat ramp ahead of the construction timetable.

7. 6800 Longboat Drive S.
This is a 50-foot-wide-by-8-foot-long strip of land fringed by mangroves. There is minimal access with no parking.

8. 755 Magnolia Road
This is a 50-foot-wide-by-290-foot-long strip of land providing excellent access with approximately three parking spots. The actual width of this access narrows considerably at the water’s edge, due to the mangroves.
