The town of Longboat Key held the first of four courses in its 2010 Citizens Academy of Government this morning at Town Hall.

Today’s class, which 11 people attended, featured the presentations “Who’s Who in Longboat Key Government” by Town Manager Bruce St. Denis and “Town Charter/Sunshine Laws” by Town Attorney David Persson.

During his presentation, Persson was asked about the status of hearings for the Longboat Key Club and Resort’s proposed $400 million Islandside renovation-and-expansion plan in relation to town codes the club is seeking to revise.

“What we hope to arrive at is an agreement on the language,” Persson said. “If we can get there, then we can get to a debate about whether or not it should or should not happen.”

Classes will continue Wednesdays through March 31.
