Town commission meets for first regular meeting

With the culmination of their summer hiatus at the start of the month, the Longboat Key Town Commission commenced their regular meeting schedule Sept. 8.

Longboat Key Deputy Police Chief Frank Rubino started off Monday's meeting by awarding marine patrol officers John Majka and Shawn Nagel the Life Saving Award from for their heroics in saving a drowning woman July 1.

Lakewood Ranch attorney R. David Jackson was also approved by the counsel as the new assistant town attorney for Maggie Mooney-Portale, a position he has worked in without title since June 2013.

And with eight members of the town's new Retirement System Board of Trustees chosen, the commission will combine three previously exisiting pension boards for a new unified one for town employees.
