An NBC “Today Show” crew filmed a three-minute segment this morning outside of the Sandpiper Inn on Longboat Key's Gulf beach about murdered British tourists James Cooper and James Kouzaris.

Correspondent Lilia Luciano broadcast live from the island. Cooper, 25, and Kouzaris, 24, stayed at nearby Whitney Beach condominium, where Cooper’s parents were renting a unit for the month, according to a neighbor. They were last seen alive in downtown Sarasota Friday night.

Police found the two men shot dead around 3 a.m. Saturday morning in Newtown. About 24 hours later, 16-year-old Shawn Tyson was arrested on two murder charges.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should contact Sarasota Police Department Det. Johnathan Todd at 954-7025.
