The Longboat Key Police Department is investigating whether criminal damages are involved with the sinking of a boat at 544 Sutton Plaza in Longboat Key.

A victim returned from out of town to report at 10:20 a.m. Aug. 10, a 2006 white 21-foot Polar boat had been sunk at a residential boat dock. The victim was notified by the Homeowners Board of Directors to remove the boat from the dock slip.

The victim is having the boat raised and towed to another location for examination.

It is possible recent heavy rains swamped the boat because the bilge pump may not have been working.

No damage was identified by the victim. The case is under investigation.
