The call for volunteers is over — now it’s onto interviewing town staff and departments.

The town’s Organizational Review Subcommittee, which was formed to find potential efficiency improvements at Town Hall, interviewed its latest two Key resident candidates Friday, Aug. 27. Two more candidates will be interviewed in September.

Subcommittee Chairman and Commissioner David Brenner said the group — which also consists of Commissioners Lynn Larson and Phillip Younger — must now determine which of the 10 candidates are best suited to interview town department heads and other town employees.

By the end of September, the subcommittee hopes to be finished interviewing department heads and begin formalizing a report that will be presented to the town manager before it’s forwarded to the Town Commission for review.

“It’s my hope the town manager is involved in everything we are doing,” said Brenner, who announced the town manager would be briefed before the interviews begin.

Brenner, a certified public accountant and former director of commerce for the city of Philadelphia, has already reviewed the town’s finance department.

Other departments that will be reviewed include the town manager’s department, the town clerk/human resources department, the management-information systems department, the planning, zoning and building department, the public works department and the police and fire-rescue departments.

Larson said she believes the subcommittee is already contributing to efficiency.

In June, town staff took the advice of two of her constituents in Country Club Shores.

David and Sharon Lund of Putting Green Lane pointed out the town could save money by not sending different utility bills for their water and irrigation meters. Residents now will receive one bill, saving hundreds in postage.
