Students to stage robotics contest before School Board meeting

Middle school students will demonstrate their skills in developing and building robots before a schedule School Board meeting Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The students, from Brookside, Heron Creek, Sarasota and Woodland middle schools, are enrolled in the Technology Engineering Education course, which is part of the district’s CTE program.

The 30-minute demonstration will take place before a School Board meeting at 5:30 p.m. and be in the form of a VEX Robotics Competition. The VEX Robotics Competition is an international program for middle and high school students that combines the study of science, technology, engineering and math with the building of robots.

The four schools were chosen to represent the success of Sarasota students in regional and national robotic competitions hosted by the Technology Student Association (TSA). Brookside, Heron Creek, Sarasota and Woodland have placed first, second or third in TSA competitions including VEX Robotics, Techno Talk, Problem Solving and Solar Spirit.
