Being the only male in the women-dominated salon environment isn’t anything new to Gordon Hall, who owned two salons in the United Kingdom.

“I love it, but now I get eight or nine ‘honey-do’ lists,” says Hall, who owns Green Ginger Hair Design salon with wife Lynda, a stylist.

The Halls bought the established salon on St. Armands Circle in December after moving to Sarasota from France, where they lived for the past five years. They had vacationed in Florida, fell in love with Sarasota and made the move.

“Sarasota was the nicest place we had been in Florida, and St. Armands is a jewel in the crown,” Hall says. “It has a great climate, great people and we have great faith that the economy will get back to what it was.”

Green Ginger’s forte is coloring and highlighting (using the Matrix graphics highlighting system) and also offers nail services and hair removal. It features product lines Redken, Matrix and Kenra. One of its most popular services is hair steamer conditioning treatments.

“The steamer opens up the hair, so the conditioning treatment can get into the hair,” Hall says. “It makes a massive difference, especially somewhere like this with all the sand and salt.”

The new owners are looking forward to a busy season, especially after they completely remolded the salon and doubled the space.

“The great thing about buying a salon is the staff,” Hall says. “The girls are such a delight. We’re so lucky.”
