Store Around the Corner: Addison Craig

From the antique furniture to the comfy green couch in the back of the store, entering Addison Craig boutique in St. Armands Circle feels a lot like walking into someone’s home- an incredibly stylish home that just happens to be filled with shoes and handbags.

That unique, homey feeling is exactly what owners Allison Craig Scanlan and Karin Addison Jack were going for when they opened the store in April 2006.

“It doesn’t feel like a department store,” says Scanlan, who decorated the store with antique furniture from hers and Jack’s own homes.

Scanlan and Jack met when their daughters were in the same pre-kindergarten class is Connecticut and have been close friends ever since. They bonded not just over their young daughters, but also over their shared love of fashion- especially shoes.

“Neither of us had any retail experience, but we are both excellent shoppers,” says Scanlan.

After the success of their St. Armands boutique, the two friends decided to open another location in Nantucket, where their families have vacationed together for years.

Addison Craig carries shoes, handbags and accessories from major designers, such as Tory Burch and Marc Jacobs, as well as lesser-known designers.

“I want people to feel like they’ve discovered something new here,” says Scanlan. “We have something for everyone, at every price point.”
