Stickney Point Bridge malfunction causes traffic jam

Traffic on Stickney Point Bridge stalled for one hour at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28, when the bridge tender was unable to lock the bridge in place to allow vehicles to pass between Siesta Key and the mainland.

Mechanics will remain on site to monitor the bridge, but technicians are confident the bridge will remain operational, according to FDOT District Structures Maintenance Engineer Jim Jacobsen.

The roadway was open to traffic at roughly 3 p.m., and the Florida Department of Transportation will be testing the bridge tonight, according to FDOT reports.
