St. Mary's Men's Club welcomes Sister Nora Brick

Sister Nora Brick, founder of Stillpoint House of Prayer and Healing, in Bradenton, was the guest speaker at the St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Men’s Club meeting March 25. Born in Ireland, Brick came in 1950 to the United States. For many years she was involved in schools in Savannah, Ga., and the Bronx, N.Y., and in 1977 she began working with migrants in the South. After working with migrants in Ruskin and Wauchula, she came to Bradenton and founded Stillpoint.

“A major problem for migrants is illiteracy,” Brick said.

She tackled this problem by starting a program to teach migrants how to read; she said she had tremendous support from retired teachers.

Outreach programs at Stillpoint include helping migrants with utility bills and providing shoes for children and spiritual guidance. The Be Still program sets aside time for quiet prayer twice a week.

“I am so grateful for my volunteers,” Brick said. “I have 40 who work with me.”
In appreciation of Brick’s work with migrants, club President Barry Napiecek presented her with a $1,000
check from the group.
