Surrounded by her family, friends, coaches and educators, Lakewood Ranch High senior Corey Hanewich fulfilled a lifelong dream when she signed a national letter of intent today to play softball for Stanford University.

"It feels really good," Hanewich said. "I have a lot of different emotions right now. I can't believe this actually happened to me. I had to hold back tears because it's always been a dream of mine to go there."

A three-year starter for Lakewood, Hanewich chose Stanford over several other Division I schools, including the University of Georgia, Florida State University and the University of Wisconsin, where her older sister Ashley plays softball, among others.

The Lady Mustangs center fielder  will now prepare for her senior season this spring before moving out to California in September.
