Traffic backups at State Road 789 and Ken Thompson Parkway this weekend and Monday morning can be attributed to a damaged traffic sensor.

Darren Alfonso, public information officer for the Florida Department of Transportation’s repaving project, confirmed that a damaged sensor that wasn’t detecting when cars were at the light caused long lines of traffic heading north and south.

The damage occurred when the paving contractor recently tore up the road and repaved it.

Alfonso said the sensor was fixed Monday night.
