ODA Swimming 
The Out-of-Door Academy boys and girls swim teams defeated Bayshore and St. Stephen’s in a tri-meet Sept. 11, at the G.T. Bray Aquatic Center. 

Sophomore Kate Patrice set a new school record in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 57.88 seconds. She also won the 50 freestyle. Senior captain Joie Eckhard won the 200 and 500 freestyle. Patrice and Eckhard then teamed up with Amber Bond and Reece Whatmore to win the 400 freestyle relay. 

On the boys side, Sarsen Whatmore won the 200 and 500 freestyles, setting new school records in both events. Whatmore finished the 200 in 2:03.52 and the 500 in 5:34.13. Charles Hayes set a new school record in the 100 backstroke (1:04.31). 

Laszlo Tengerdy won the 50 and 100 freestyles. Matthew Leonard and Zach Szmania also posted top finishes.

+ Sarasota volleyball victorious in district action
The Sarasota High volleyball team beat Palmetto 25-7, 25-10, 25-17 Sept. 9.

Hannah Hritz finished with six kills, four aces and two digs to lead the way for the Lady Sailors. Sarah Pifer had four kills and one block. Jordan Brooks added four kills, one ace and four digs. Toni Mogensen contributed three blocks, two kills and seven aces. Jessica Shiffner finished with five kills, one ace and two digs.

+ Sarasota Christian volleyball sweeps Donahue Academy
The Sarasota Christian volleyball team defeated Donahue Academy 25-2, 25-7, 25-11 Sept. 11.
Taylor Miller had six aces and four kills to lead the way for the Lady Blazers. Kaylynn Snyder added four kills and one ace. Andrea Witmer finished with four kills and one block.

Sarasota Christian returns to action Sept. 16, at Southwest Florida Christian.

+ Sailors swing past Rams
The Sarasota High boys golf team edged past Riverview 151-157 Sept. 11 on the front nine of Laurel Oak Country Club’s west course.

Logan Finlay shot 36 to lead the way for the Sailors. Ben Tortorice and Rhys Bennett both shot 38. Parker Spence added a 39.

Nick Kaufman shot 38 to lead the way for Riverview. Erik Souchak shot 39 followed by Pierce Roberts and Chad Madden, who both shot 40.

+ Lady Thunder volleyball prevails in five sets
The Out-of-Door Academy volleyball team defeated Bradenton Christian 18-25, 27-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-12 in Class 3A-District 10 action Sept. 9.

Reanna Gregory had 13 kills, and Sam Emmons added 11 kills to lead the way for the Lady Thunder. Emmons also had five aces. Greta Holland and Cameron Graham combined for 55 of the team’s 120 digs.

“I was so impressed by how much our team hustled and worked defensively,” coach Stefanie Betz says. “We’ve been preaching work, work, work for weeks, and this is the first time I think we’ve out-worked our opponent.”
