Pine View School and Sarasota High Sailing
The Pine View School and Sarasota High varsity sailing teams both qualified for the Mallory National High School championship, which will be held May 9 through May 11, in San Diego.

The two teams, which both sail with the Sarasota Youth Sailing Program, earned a national bid by placing in the top three at the Southeast District Championship March 29 and March 30, in Sunbury, Ga.

Pine View and Sarasota sailed against teams from across the Southeastern U.S. as well as the Virgin Islands. Pine View finished second, and Sarasota came in third.

+ Sailors set new school records
Sarasota High runners Emily Harding and Zack Summerall both set new school records in the 1600-meter run at the Pepsi Relays April 3 and April 4, at the University of Florida.

Harding crossed the finish line in 4 minutes, 56.27 seconds to break her own previous school record of 5:01. Her new mark is now the 2014 state leading time for all high school girls. Summerall crossed the finish line in 4:17.23 to break his previous school record by more than a second.

Adam Bradtmueller finished fourth in the 1,600 with a new personal best of 4:19.16.

In addition to winning the 1,600, Harding placed third in the 800 with a new school record time of 2:14.74. Mackenzie Brown placed 14th overall with a personal best time of 2:20.90.

Summerall placed fifth in the 800 with a new personal record of 1:55.

Bradtmueller finished third in the 3,200 with a new school record time of 9:26.44, breaking his previous school record by more than two seconds. Angelina Grebe also set a new personal record in the 3,200 with a time of 11:26.94.

+ SCS completes district sweep
The Sarasota Christian softball team defeated Southwest Florida Christian 12-6 in district action April 1.
Cheyenne Miller earned the win on the mound for the Lady Blazers, allowing nine hits and a walk while striking out four.

Audra King went 5-for-5 with two doubles and six RBIs to lead the way for Sarasota Christian at the plate. Savanna King went 3-for-3 with two triples.

+ ODA breezes to district win
The Out-of-Door Academy girls lacrosse team defeated Cardinal Mooney 15-7 in district action April 1.
Kimmy Comito scored six goals and added three assists to lead the way for the Lady Thunder. Taylor Albano added four goals and an assist.

Lexi Myers had two goals and two assists. Adelaide Mahler had two goals and one assist. Abby Lagasse had one goal and two assists. Tess Siciliano had one goal. And Lexi Murphy and Sierra Dickerson both were credited with an assist.

+ Golf tourney to benefit Booker
The Booker High athletic department will host its third annual golf tournament May 10, at Stoneybrook Golf Course in Heritage Harbour, 8000 Stone Harbour Loop, Bradenton.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

Cost is $95 per person or $380 per foursome and includes a round of golf, lunch, beverages and awards.
Participants also will have the chance to compete in several contests, including closest to the hole, longest drive, putting and a hole-in-one contest for a chance to win a new Cadillac. There also will be a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction featuring weekend getaways, signed NFL memorabilia and fishing charters, among other prizes.

Sponsorships ranging from $100 to $1,000 are available.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Tornadoes athletic department to help buy new uniforms and equipment.
