+ Pirates advance to semifinals
The Braden River High boys basketball team cruised to a 54-38 victory over Manatee in a Class 7A-District 11 quarterfinal Feb. 4.

Terrance Cummings and Zechariah Kendall each scored 11 points for the Pirates.

The defending district champion Pirates traveled to Charlotte for a district semifinal game Feb. 6.

+ Mustangs send four to regionals
Four Lakewood Ranch High wrestlers qualified for the Class 2A-Region 3 tournament Feb. 8 and Feb. 9, at Charlotte High.

Blake Riley-Hawkins (second place), Ty McLeod (second place), Larry White (third place) and Bailey Sever (fourth place) all finished in the top four in their respective weight classes, at the Class 2A-District 11 tournament Feb. 2, at Venice High, to advance to the regional tournament.

The Mustangs finished fifth overall in the 11-team tournament.

+ Lakewood honors seniors with win
The Lakewood Ranch High boys basketball honored seniors Corey Adams, Mitchell Cobb and Chaz Grady on Senior Day Feb. 2.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter en route to a 47-41 non-district victory over Manatee.

Grady scored 14 first-half points, and junior Cole Theodoropolous added 13 points.

“It was a big win, and a great way to send out our seniors in style,” coach Jeremy Schiller says.

+ Pep rally to benefit Miracle League
The Pittsburgh Pirates will hold a raffle to benefit The Miracle League of Manasota Feb. 16.

The Pirates Pep Rally event will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Bradenton.
Raffle tickets cost $1, or six for $5. All proceeds from the raffle will benefit The Miracle League, an organization dedicated to providing an opportunity for all children to play baseball regardless of their ability.
Pittsburgh Pirates autographed merchandise and other items will be raffled off throughout the event.

+ BRSC wins invitational
The Braden River Soccer Club U14 girls premier team won the Ormond Beach Invitational Jan. 19 and Jan. 20.

The Rage posted four consecutive shutouts, defeating their opponents 1-0, 1-0, 1-0 and 3-0 en route to winning the championship.

+ i9 Sports registration under way
Registration for the i9 Sports spring 2013 season is under way.

The season begins March 30 and runs through May 18, at Nolan Middle School, 6615 Greenbrook Blvd., Lakewood Ranch. Sports include: flag football, soccer, T-ball, cheerleading and basketball.

+ ECO residents Tee it up for TaTas
Doug and Dr. Joi Grice will host the first Tee it up for TaTas golf tournament Feb. 10, at the Legacy Golf Club.
The event will benefit Angie Morgan, Joi Grice’s cousin, who was diagnosed with breast cancer on Christmas Eve.

Registration for the four-person scramble, which is $125 per person, will begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
