Sheriff's Office calls off Caspersen Beach search

An abandoned dive flag discovered off the coast of Caspersen Beach triggered a multi-agency search for a potential missing diver Monday.

But lacking any missing persons reports, and with vehicles in nearby parking lots accounted for, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office called off the search after four hours.

The Venice Police Department, Venice Fire Department and Sarasota County Beach Patrol assisted in the search, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
