The 2009-10 season was a fruitful one for the Longboat Key Garden Club, and on Tuesday, April 13, the club celebrated its accomplishments in Joan M. Durante Park at its annual meeting and luncheon.

The 2010 Home & Garden Tour, which featured six homes, netted nearly $14,000 after expenses. The club awarded grants to Anna Maria Elementary School, Manasota 88, Mote Marine Laboratory’s Center for Coastal Ecology and Dr. Meg Lowman, of New College, for python removal. The club donated five books to the Longboat Library. And, thanks to the Garden Club’s efforts, Mallika Nair, Jamie Schindewolf and Hillary English received education scholarships.

The Garden Club distributed awards to owners of the six homes that participated in the Home & Garden Tour and also presented Beautification Awards to Charles Anderson and James Stalnaker, 509 Bayview Drive; Jesus and Lourdes Patalinhug, 591 Birdie Lane; Chris and JoDene Moneuse, 524 Lyons Lane; and William Witzel, 551 Putter Lane.

Although the season is wrapping up, the Garden Club will continue to bloom throughout the summer with field trips and a “Puttin’ on the Ritz!” high tea and fashion show in
