Selby Foundation awards $1 million in grants

The William G. and Marie Selby Foundation announced this week the awarding of nearly $1 million in grants to 28 organizations. Most of the funding will be used for capital improvements.

“Our selection process was very difficult this round,” said Dr. Sarah Pappas, foundation president. “Even the large, well-established organizations demonstrated significant need.”

The 28 recipients are:

• Alzheimer’s Disease Association $21,468
• Charlotte County Cultural Center $49,706
• Children’s Academy of SW Florida $40,000
• Coastal Behavioral Healthcare $50,000
• Education Foundation $50,000
• First Step of Sarasota $22,000
• Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches $21,000
• Florida Studio Theatre $40,000
• Forty Carrots of Sarasota $49,583
• Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County $35,550
• Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida $50,000
• Habitat for Humanity $35,000
• Marie Selby Botanical Gardens $50,000
• Mental Health Community Centers $31,000
• Miracle League of Manasota $50,000
• Myakka City Historical Society $50,000
• Palmetto Youth Center $50,000
• Pines of Sarasota Foundation $50,000
• Police Athletic League
• and Charter Schools of Manatee Co. $40,000
• Robert L. Taylor Complex $50,000
• Sarasota Family YMCA $42,872
