Manatee County Public Schools are working to get students and parents involved in the legislative process and engage in issues that may affect education in Manatee County.

The district will hold a town hall-style meeting at 7 p.m., tonight at Braden River High School, 6545 State Road 70 E., Bradenton.

“The best way we can teach our children to get involved in democracy is for us to model that behavior and get involved ourselves,” Superintendent Tim McGonegal said. “I want to strongly encourage our students, parents, employees and the public to attend this important event.”

Highlights of the meeting will include speakers including National Football League Hall of Famer Henry Lawrence, insight from legislative insiders, discussions on hot-button issues such as oil drilling and class-size amendments and practical ways for citizens to get involved it the legislative process.

A simultaneous session for elementary-aged children also will be available.
