BP has asked Lee Fox, executive director of Save Our Seabirds, 1708 Ken Thompson Parkway, to be on standby to coordinate the Oiled Wildlife Response Team for the Florida Gulf coast in case oil from the spill off the coast of Louisiana spreads toward Florida waters. Her team will seek out wildlife that has been impacted by the spill.

Fox wrote the “Oiled Wildlife Preparedness Program” manual, which was used in recovery efforts in August 1993 after the Tampa Bay oil spill. Since then, her program has been used after oil spills throughout the United States and in the Netherlands and Brazil.

If Fox’s team is called to action, the group will need donations of paper towels, electric extension chords, liquid soap, towels, sheets and old T-shirts.
