Sarasota County Emergency Management announces a potential for widespread showers and thunderstorms that may affect Sarasota County.

The National Hurricane Center has identified a weak area of low-pressure in the south-central Gulf of Mexico. The organization is monitoring the system and forecasts numerous showers and some thunderstorms today and tonight.

The National Hurricane Center forecasts the system will move northward through the Gulf of Mexico, then across Florida Thursday and Friday night. It is too early to know the impacts of the storm, but heavy rain with the potential for some flooding is the most liekly hazard.

For more information call the Sarasota County Call Center at 861-5000 or visit the county web site at scgov.net.
