At the June 1 City Commission meeting, City Manager Bob Bartolotta revealed that the city property-tax values will not decline as much as he expected.

“We thought the overall tax base would be down further,” he said at the meeting.

Bill Furst, the county property appraiser, notified Bartolotta that taxable values will be down an estimated 11% this year. The city had been anticipating a 20% decline.

“This was better news than expected,” Bartolotta said.

But, the 11% figure is not set in stone. Furst’s final appraisal numbers are not due until July 1.

Last year, taxable values dropped 10.8%.
