Sarasota Police have identified the suspect in an April 3 shooting in Newtown that forced area school lockdowns, according to a news release.

Police say Jacobe Jenkins opened the passenger door of a vehicle and fired an assault rifle at an unidentified victim after 10:20 a.m. Officers arrested Jasmine Jenkins, the suspect’s sister, who allegedly drove the vehicle during the shooting.

The victim said he and Jenkins had several verbal confrontations about a woman, including a verbal threat earlier that day. Detectives charged Jasmine Jenkins with principal aggravated assault with a firearm, and child neglect, because her toddler was in the vehicle during the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of Jacobe Jenkins should call the Sarasota Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 954-7070.
