At this morning’s County Commission meeting, the commissioners declared April 27 “Michael’s On East Day” in honor of the restaurant’s 25th anniversary.

A section of the proclamation reads: “Whereas Michael’s On East was founded on April 27, 1987, as a culinary destination for the Sarasota community providing inspiring, award-winning cuisine as well as becoming an innovative community partner to more than 500 local area charities and nonprofits.”

Accepting the honor were Michael's On East co-proprieters Michael Klauber and Phil Mancini, along with their families.

"I am so honored and very proud of all of the amazing organizations we have been able to help over the past 25 years," says Klauber. "On top of that, we have the greatest staff and best guests on earth. I call that a recipe for success."

“It was quite the surprise and a really nice gesture,” says Mancini. “Now everyone keeps asking if they get the day off every year. My answer is, ‘I’ll compromise and buy you lunch every April 27.’”
