Sarasota forensic teams to compete in state championship

Two Sarasota County schools will represent the Gulf Coast at the Florida Forensic State Tournament Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1.

Pine View School for the Gifted and Sarasota High School’s speech and debate teams will be competing for the state championship.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, Pine View hosted the 2014 Florida Forensic League Gulf Coast Region Qualifying Tournament. 

More than 30 Pine View students in 11 sub teams earned enough points to compete in the championship.

Four sub teams made up of six students from Sarasota High School also qualified to participate in the state tournament held in Fort Lauderdale.

Next week, students from the Pine View team will compete in the 40th annual Harvard National Invitational Forensics Tournament in Cambridge, Mass. The event is the second-largest tournament in the country, after the National Forensic Leagues National Tournament.
