The Sarasota County School District selected administrative assistant Merscilla Gill as Sarasota School-Related Employee of the Year Wednesday, May 1, recognizing her 28 years of service.

Gill was chosen from 51 nominees who work as support staff in the district’s schools and departments, all of whom were recognized at the luncheon with a “Shining Star” award.

She will serve as ambassador for the school for the next 12 months and represent the district in the state competition.

Gill works in the multi-faceted Integrated Instructional Services Department, which includes the offices of Curriculum and Instruction; Grants; Professional Development; Research, Assessment and Evaluation; School Choice; Charter Schools and other key functions of the district.

“Ms. Gill delivers exceptional service in person, on the telephone and by email. She presents a positive and welcoming environment, treating individuals with respect, answering questions to help resolve problems, and following up to ensure satisfaction. She is the ‘face and voice’ of the district for many parents new to the county, as well as those who come to the office with questions and concerns about their child’s school,” said Executive Director Natalie Roca.

In addition Gill volunteers for All Faiths Food Bank, coordinates toy collections during the holidays and is business manager of a local youth football team. She was awarded with a 2013 red Toyota Corolla LE to drive for the next year, courtesy of the lead sponsor of the School–Related Employee of the Year program for the seventh consecutive year Germain Toyota of Sarasota.
