As executive director of the Police Athletic League of Sarasota County, Sheriff Tom Knight has authorized the Board of Directors to discuss the opportunity to merge operation of the Sailor Circus with Circus Sarasota.

The purpose of the discussion is to find a home for the Sailor Circus that will respect its rich history and ensure that the program is able to continue to flourish in the future.

Although the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has been operating the circus since 2004, the PAL Board believes Circus Sarasota can best preserve the integrity and culture of the Sailor Circus.

“Ultimately, it’s about the children of Sarasota County,” said Sheriff Knight in a prepared statement. “The collaboration of these two dynamic programs under one umbrella offers unlimited opportunities for resource sharing, development and promotion.”
