Early autumn is always a time of much anticipation in the Sarasota arts community with several season-opening performances a few weeks away. This artistic expectancy brings with it the promise of new talent, material, and the occasional announcement.

In that tradition of the new, the Sarasota Ballet announced on Oct. 6 an update to the rank and file of its company of dancers before the opening of its 2014-2015 season with a fresh round of promotions.

Artistic Director Iain Webb promoted Elizabeth Sykes and Nicole Padilla from Coryphee to Soloists. Webb also advanced Ricki Bertoni to Character Principle and Edward Gonzalez to Junior Principle.

The Sarasota Ballet opens its 2014-2015 season with Will Tuckett’s "The Secret Garden” Oct. 24 through Oct. 26.
