This is the first time in 35 years that the Russian Festival Concert will come to Sarasota. The Balalaika and Domra Association of America (BDAA), the American chapter of an international nonprofit group of more than 400 musicians interested in the study of traditional folk instruments of Russia, hosts a yearly convention, typically with a host Russian folk orchestra. But, this year, the 100-piece folk orchestra decided sunny Sarasota, with many tourist attractions and beautiful surroundings, would be appropriate.

The group will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota where they hold rehearsals, recitals, workshops and jam sessions. These musicians are anything but standard — the instruments are unusually shaped, the costumes are colorful and the music is emotional. But you can see it for yourself at the Russian Festival Concert on Saturday, July 13.
