Roundabout study to examine impacts

With the Florida Department of Transportation providing its endorsement of the bayfront-connectivity plan concept, the project is proceeding with a feasibility study.

City commissioners will be briefed today about the process of that research on the plan’s first phase.
The initial phase of the bayfront-connectivity plan includes roundabouts on U.S. 41 at 14th Street and 10th Street. The project is designed to slow traffic speed, create wider avenues and medians and include more space for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The state and federal governments are fully funding the study, which will examine details such as the project’s traffic improvements and environmental impacts.

The study may also find that the best solution is that nothing new be built.

In all, the bayfront-connectivity plan calls for six roundabouts from 14th Street south to Orange Avenue.
