Judging for the Regional Science, Engineering and Technology Fair kicked-off Thursday morning. More than 160 volunteer judges reviewed middle and high school submissions from all Sarasota County schools.

Judges range from field specialists, local business owners and community leaders to members of the community with a general interest in science.

Third to twelfth grade students from public, charter, virtual and private schools, as well as home-schooled students are participating in the fair. The show exhibits fourteen categories of science, engineering and technology.

The event is co-sponsored by the Dart Foundation and the Faulhaber Foundation. The Education Foundation and community sponsors fund the fair’s expenses, which include cash awards.

Winning projects and awards will be announced by the Sarasota County Fair in March, where they will be displayed.

The top two high school projects will compete in the annual Intel ISEF in Los Angeles this spring.
